Blackberry Storm 2 Is Confirmed

Jim Balsillie, RIMs co-CEO has confirmed that they are working on a next generation Storm. RIM had largely been criticized for the BlackBerry Storm and its technical issues. Despite all the criticism the Storm had huge sales in the US. With the success of the Storm RIM has decided to make a second device, we’ll call it the Storm 2 for now. Jim Balsillie did not confirm anymore information, just that the device was on the drawing board. His official quote was, “we have next-generation devices with that and the whole roadmap.” I wouldn’t count Blackberry out just yet all you critics out there. They might be a little behind, but in an ever changing technology landscape it’s not too hard to make giant leaps quickly.

Boost Mobile Tapped Out

An article from the AP is saying that while Boost Mobile’s $50 unlimited plan is helping the company draw new customers, it’s majorly slowing down data traffic. There are reports that text messages are sometimes taking hours to be received. When it comes to texting it’s all about the instant response. Having a text delayed at all is a headache for most. The article says that there may be an underlying problem with Boost Mobile’s infrastructure, but Boost Mobile denies this claim and says it’s due to the large number of new customers.

In todays economy maybe there is a trade off between service and cost. For some $50 unlimited texting and data transfers is not such a bad deal. Having their text message delayed outweighs paying a higher cost for another carrier. I’m guessing this is an opinion shared by a small minority though. Boost needs to get whatever the problem is straightened out. As they say in business, the first thing you should plan for is success. If you’re not ready to support that many customers you shouldn’t be signing them up. Boost Mobile customers, “where you at”!

How to Listen to Your Cell Phone in a Noisy Place

I was reading an article in Wired Magazine this morning, the January addition to be exact (I know, I’m a little behind), and I ran across an article titled “Hear Better On Your Cell Phone”. The article talked about how to hear better on your cell phone when in a noisy area. The key is to cover the mouthpiece while listening. Your cell phone confuses your brain by funneling both the caller’s voice and the room noise into your ear. By cancelling out the noise coming into the mic all you will hear will be the speaker noise coming into your ear. The ole stick your finger in your other ear won’t do the trick.

Next time you’re in a noisy place give cover the mic and you won’t have to worry about not hearing the person on the other line.

Old School Fridays – First Bluetooth Phone

We all take for granted that just about every cell phone manufactured these days has Bluetooth capabilities. It wasn’t that long ago, 2000 to be exact, that cell phones were not Bluetooth enabled. The first cell phone to utilize Bluetooth was by cell phone manufacturer Ericsson (this is before they became Sony Ericsson). The phone was the T36. The T36 was a tri-band flip phone with WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). The T36 was first introduced at the CommunicAsia conference and took the audience by storm. The ability to connect wirelessly to other devices via Bluetooth technology was truly a game changer. Thank you Ericsson for this great invention!
