Old School Fridays – Apple iPhone

apple_iphone_original

To pay homage to the iPhone 3G S I’m going to dedicate this weeks “Old School Fridays” to the original iPhone. You’re probably thinking to yourself, how could you consider the iPhone old school? Let me ask you, would you consider the original iPod old school at this point? I would say yes, in fact I would consider the original iPod a relic at this point. With Apple’s aggressive product launch we can most likely expect a new iPhone once or even twice a year.

If you still are using the original iPhone consider yourself old school. With so many iPhones sold I wonder what people are doing with their original iPhones? I suggest Apple setup a recycle program.

Are You Ready For A Lacoste Cell Phone

lacoste-logo

ModeLabs Group and Lacoste have come out with a joint statement to announce the launch of a Lacoste branded cell phone in 2010. I’m actually excited to hear about this. I’m a big fan of phones that are cross branded with non traditional telecommunication companies (think the FIFA branded phones, Prada, etc.). I think it brings a little added excitment to the cell phone industry. My guess is the phone will be a more traditional phone. It won’t have all the bells and whistles of a smartphone. Once I get pictures of the phone I’ll post them. Would you purchase a Lacoste branded cell phone?

I have included a link to the press release below. It’s in French, thankfully I know a few people that speak French and could translate it for me.

Celebrity Thursdays – Eva Longoria

eva_longoria_cell_phone

Time for another new weekly post I’m starting (if you’re following you’ve probably realized I have one for every day of the week). Every Thursday I will have a “Celebrity Thursday” post. I will feature a celebrity along with the cell phone he or she is using. To start things off I’ve chosen the lovely Eva Longoria. These days Eva is sporting a Blackberry Bold.  As you can see she use to have the Curve, but has since upgraded. If you’ve always wanted to be like Eva here’s your chance, sort of. Tune in next Thursday to see which cell phone your favorite celebrity is rocking.

App Review Wed – BubbleWrap

bubblewrap

This week I’m starting a new weekly series called “App Review Wed”. Each week I will be reviewing a new app. To start off the series I thought I would start with a very simple app. When I say simple I mean VERY simple. What’s the app? It’s the BubbleWrap app. The BubbleWrap app is an application that mimics the popping of bubble wrap that you would find for packing. You know, those big or sometimes small bubbles that you could not get enough of when you were a kid. Depending on the size of the wrap you could sit there for hours popping the bubbles. Well now you can relive those glory days. To use the app you simply run your fingers over the bubbles and the phone vibrates when the bubbles pop. After you’ve popped all the bubbles the app automatically starts again giving you a fresh round of bubble wrap.

I would say the app loses it’s fun factor after about a minute, but hey, that’s what apps are for. There are a million of them out there and most only give you a few seconds of pleasure before you download the next one. So if you’re looking for a way to pass time or you’re just dying to pop a view bubbles go ahead and download this app. The game can be downloaded in most of the app stores (Android, iPhone, etc..)

If you would like to have your app reviewed please send an email via the contact page.

Cool Accessory Tuesday – Stylish Blackberry Charger

41frmmr4nll_ss400_

These days cell phone chargers just aren’t what they use to be. Back in the day cell phones came with cool and stylish cell phone chargers. The cool cell phone chargers were replaces with basic plug-in chargers. Well stylish cell phone chargers are starting to make a come back. Take this Blackberry charger for example. The charger has the same sleek look as the Blackberry Curve. The charger can be used for the following models 8300, 8310, 8320, and 8330. I’m a big fan of these chargers. They may not be as “portable” as other chargers, but they are very classy. You can find this charger at Blackberry Curve Charger Pod.

Versus Mondays – T9 or Full QWERTY

cell_phone_keyboards2

To build on Versus Mondays from last week lets take a look at the two prevailing keyboard technologies for cell phones, T9 and Full Qwerty. The concept for a full QWERTY keyboard on a cell phone has been around for some time. It was a no brainer to have a full keyboard on a cell phone to allow for easy texting and emailing. The only problem is that a full QWERTY keyboard takes up a lot of real estate on a cell phone. To ease this problem and still have the ability to type fast T9 (predictive text) was created. If you’re not familiar with T9 let me give you a quick intro. T9 allows you to start typing a word and the technology automatically “predicts” the word you’re typing and finishes the word for you. I must say that it’s quite impressive and seems like magic.  Plus the added advantage is that it uses the same basic 9 keys that are on a regular cell phone keypad. So my question to all of you today is which one do you like better and why. Do you prefer the ability to have a full QWERTY keyboard or do you prefer using T9?

Cool Accessory Tuesday – Tire Tread iPhone Case

iphone_tire_tread_case

With the announcement of the new Apple iPhone 3GS I thought I would put up a cool accessory for the iPhone. This is the tire tread iPhone case. The ultimate in iPhone protection. Given the fragile nature of the iPhone why not protect it in a cool looking tire tread case. The case is actually made from 100% treaded rubber. Not only does it look like a tire, but it actually is made from the same material. I’m willing to be most of your friends with iPhones don’t have this cover! You can purchase the cover at Amazon.

Versus Monday – Cell Phone Keyboards

cell_phone_keyboards

Today I’m starting a new weekly post called Versus Monday. Every Monday I will compare two things, it can be phones, accessories, services, game, etc… I will compare both and declare a winner. To start things off lets look at the classic full QWERTY keyboard compared to the virtual full QWERTY keyboard.

Ever since the inception of the Blackberry, QWERTY keyboards on cell phones have been extremely popular. The design of these keyboards have ranged anywhere between raised keypads to flat keypads and keys that are spaced to keys that are next to each other. The downside of the classic keyboard is that it takes up key real estate on the cell phone and is not always easy to “type”. This is especially true for keyboards that have small buttons and people with big fingers!

On the other hand the iPhone made the virtual QWERTY keyboard popular. With the virtual keyboard you can type right on the screen without having a seperate area for a classic keyboard. This saves space on the cell phone and allows for either a smaller phone or a larger screen. However, virtual keyboards have problems of their own. Often times the screen does not recognize when you “touch” a key. There is always the potential of finger smudges on the screen.

WINNER: classic keyboard

I have to give it to the classic keyboard. I find that overall they are easier to use and when it comes down to it that’s what matters most.

Old School Fridays – Sanyo SCP-6000

6000_hero

It was eight years ago when the ultra-slim Sanyo SCP-6000 hit Sprint store shelves. At the time this was one of the slimmest phones to hit the market. The phone measured only .39 inches think, or should I say thin. The metallic silver finish turned heads when people used the phone. I remember seeing the phone for the first time and how I was in awh of how thin the phone was. It was around this same time that rather bulky flip phones were the phones to have. So it was refreshing to see a cell phone manufacturer come out with a phone that was different then what everyone else was making. Here’s to the Sanyo SCP-6000 for pushing slim to the limit!
