With all the buzz over 3D movies and 3D televisions hitting the market what about cell phones? Well you better believe that the cell phone manufacturers are thinking ahead about creating 3D displays on their handsets. One of the innovators in this space is Sharp.

Sharp plans on creating a 3D display that you will not need special glasses to see. Unlike 3D glasses the display will automatically shoot different images to each eye which produces a 3D look. There is no timeframe for when a mass produced cell phone will have 3D technology, but I would guess sometime by next Summer at the latest.

This is a two part video that Sprint put together showing off the power of the HTC EVO on the Sprint 4G network. If this is the future of mobile and high speed then we are all in for a treat.

Today Palm announced it’s second smartphone in the past year, the Palm Pixi. The Pixi is smaller than the Pre and runs on the Palm webOS. The Pixi has a full QWERTY keyboard and does not slide open like the Pre.  Here’s what Palm is saying about the phone:

The Palm Pixi will be available in black, but there will be a number of limited edition custom phones created by today’s hottest artists.  The Palm Pixi will have the following features:

I guess Palm wanted to get an early “heads-up” out there because the Pixi isn’t set to launch until the holidays. This means it will be several months until the Pixi is available for sale. There is no word yet on the pricing, but my guess is it will be around the $149 price range. Stay tuned for more info.

While we’re waiting for the next generation Xperia, the X2, to hit the market why not jump a few generations to the X5. This is not an official concept from Sony Ericsson, but someone with a “vision” of how the X5 will look. The photos came from a Korean website. The developer envisioned the phone having the following features:

• Sliding Full QWERTY Keyboard
• 12MP camera with Auto-Focus and XENON Flash
• HD Video Recording
• Android
• 3 Colors: (Chrome Silver, Ocean Blue, Sunny Orange)

Again, we’re still waiting for the X2 to be release so an X5 is years away. Also, how many phone do you know that have made it to fifth generation? Not many, so for now enjoy the concept, but don’t count on it being a reality.

There are kick-ass cell phone concepts and then there are KICK-ASS cell phone concepts. The WINDOW cell phone concept going into the KICK-ASS category. “The phone is designed as a thin, clear and transparent plastic sheet, which remains clear during a sunny day, becomes humid during a rainy day and takes a dump outlook during a snowy day. The user can write text messages or draw pictures on the phone in different weather conditions which will later transform and show as SMS characters. The screen features sensitive interaction with the user and comprises the state of a window in different weather conditions.” The phone is a concept phone so it doesn’t exist or might not even pysically be possible to make, but it sure is cool. The second Android phone for T-Mobile customers has been announced. T-Mobile will be launching the T-Mobile myTouch 3G (otherwise known as the HTC Magic). The myTouch 3G is the successor to the T-Mobile G1. The myTouch 3G ditches the slide out keyboard in favor of a virtual touchscreen keyboard. Another key addition is Sherpa.  Created by Geodelic, Sherpa features GENIE (Geodelic ENgine for Interest Evaluation), a learning engine that automatically customizes itself to the user’s preferences. Through behavior and user feedback, the application learns a person’s likes and dislikes, prioritizing recommended retailers, restaurants and attractions. Seamlessly blending behavior recognition, a recommendation engine and location relevant information, this combination of learning is exclusive to Sherpa and unlike any experience currently on the market.

Features of the myTouch include a 3.2-inch HVGA touch-screen display and virtual keyboard, which orients automatically from portrait to landscape mode in most applications. It also features a 3.2-megapixel camera, a music player with a pre-installed 4GB microSD memory card, and enhanced video capabilities to make it easy for users to record and share pictures and videos, whether via e-mail, MMS or one-click upload to sites such as YouTube™ and Picasa™. The device’s powerful mobile Web experience is supported by fast data speeds via Wi-Fi and T-Mobile’s 3G network.

You can pre-order the phone starting July 8th for $199.99 with a two year contract. Pre-orders will start shipping at the end of July. Devices will hit store shelves sometime in August. No word yet on pricing for non-contract customers.

National Geographic and Cellular Abroad have teamed to make the Duet. The National Geographic Duet is meant for the International traveler. The phone supports two SIM cards and offers additional features useful for travelers, such as Bluetooth, a camera, FM radio, television and 1GB storage card. Today Verizon Wireless announced the release of the Samsung Alias 2 (sch-u750). The Alias 2 is the successor to the popular Alias (sch-u740). In true Alias fashion the Alias 2 has a dual-hinge which allows the phone to be flipped open both vertically and horizontally. Features of the phone include:

The Nokia E71x is now available at AT&T stores and online. The price for the E71x is $99 with a two year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. The Nokia E71x is not trying to be a Blackberry replacement, however the phone is geared towards consumers that use their cell phones for business. A few of the phones features include a full QWERTY keyboard, GPS, 3.2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth. The phones runs on AT&T’s 3G network for faster data speeds.
