I received the Samsung Memoir (SGH-t929) in the mail the other day for review. As always I did the unboxing video to show you what comes included in the box and of course a first look at the Memoir. I should have the full video review within the next week or two. When watching the unboxing video makes sure to click the HD button on the bottom right of the player so you can watch in Hi-Def. Enjoy!

Special Edition Selfridges Blackberry Bold

I’m always a fan of limited edition cell phones. So when I heard about the Selfridges limited edition phones I had to write a post. In case you don’t know Selfridges is an ultra luxury department store with four locations throughout the UK. To celebrate their 100th birthday Selfridges commissioned RIM to make 10 special edition Blackberry Bolds.

The phones have a yellow leather back with the writing “EXCLUSIVE TO SELFRIDGEs TO CELEBRATE 100 YEARS” and an individual number. Now you might be asking yourself how much do these phones cost. Since there are only 10 available you can guess they don’t come cheap. They are selling for a cool £1000 which is equivalent to about $1,500. Selfridges has already said six have been sold. If you want one of the remaining four you better act quick!

Star Trek Edition Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

To celebrate the release of the latest Star Trek movie, Paramount Pictures and Nokia have teamed up to create the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Start Trek phone. It’s no taser, but I guess you can consider it a Star Trek gadget.

Unfortunately the phone doesn’t have any special engravings signifying that it’s a Star Trek phone. It’s considered a Star Trek edition phone because it has a number of content packages loaded on it.  The content includes Star Trek animated screensavers, three Star Trek wallpapers and eight exclusive ringtones, including “Phazer Shot”, “Red Alert” and “Kelvin Communicator”. You could probably find seomwhere to download this content onto your 5800 already. In my opinion if you’re going to have a special edition phone you have to beyond just loaded content. The phone needs to be designed in such a way that it is unique to whatever campaign it’s based on.

The phone will only be available in the UK in a variety of different colors including blue, red, black and silver. As I said earlier though if you can find the content then you too can have your own “special edition” Star Trek 5800.

MetroPCS Announces Samsung Tint

Today metroPCS announced the launch of the newest phone to their lineup, the Samsung Tint. The Tint is a flip phone with the most basic of features. The phone includes a 0.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS and speakerphone. A notable feature that is missing from the Tint is a MP3 player, which is standard in almost all phones. With it’s limited features this phone is definitely for the customer that only wants to use their cell phone to make calls.

If you want to spice up this otherwise basic phone there are a number of different face and back plates for the phone. Colors include pink, green, purple and red. It’s like slapping lipstick on a pig though. I’m not really sure how much traction this phone is going to get, but hey, I’ve been surprised before. The Tint isn’t available for purchase yet, but I’m guessing it will not be expensive at all.

Sidekick LX Launching In May

The original Sidekick LX launched a few years ago with much success. Today T-Mobile is telling us that the 2009 LX is set to launch May 13th. This is much welcomed news to Sidekick fans. The big change in the 2009 is 3G support. Now users of the popular texting and social media phone will be able to access Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Twitter much faster than before. Also the LX will have a larger screen and will be thinner than any Sidekick released. If you want to pre-order the LX you can at Sidekick LX 2009.

I’ve been surprised to find how popular Sidekicks are. There is always a lot of discussion about the iPhone, but Sidekicks have huge followings. Therefore, I think this latest LX will do very well here in the United States.

MetroPCS Says “Get A Hint”

MetroPCS is truly on a roll these days, they’re expanding all over the east coast and their customer base is growing. To keep things rolling metroPCS is now offering the Motorola Hint (QA3). This is a big step for metroPCS, but traditionally their lineup of phones has been lack luster. I’m guessing if they want to stay in the game and grow they’ll need to have at least a few top notch phones in their lineup. The Hint is a slider phone with a full QWERTY keyboard. You can see more photos and specs at Motorola Hint.

The phone is going for $249. As you know metroPCS has a flat monthly rate and no contracts so the price of the phone is what it is. There’s always a give and take in the mobile phone world. I can already see that metroPCS is taking baby steps toward their goal of being a major provider. Way to go!

Credit Card Size Cell Phone – Environmentally Friendly

OK all you smaller is better cell phone lovers and environmentalist. A phone is set to come out in the near future for you. The phone above is the size of a credit card and as thick (or should I say thin) as three credit cards stacked. The cell phone is called the Card Mobile Phone and was shown recently at the CTIA show in Las Vegas.

The cell phone is the creation of Real Phone Card, a company out of San Diego. The phone is a dual band GSM GPRS which has either a color or monochrome screen. The phone provides 200 minutes of talk time, and has canned text messages included. The phone does not have a key pad. You make calls by navigating an onscreen key pad, but it also has built-in voice dialing. On top of all of this the Card Mobile phone is waterproof. How about that!

If you’re looking to get your hands on one you’ll have to wait. The phone will first launch in India later this year and possibly the US afterwards. Also, there is no price tag at this time. Here’s what the phones creators have to say:

“Creating a credit card size phone at less than 1/4 ” thick, with these features took quite a bit of creative design”, explained Founder and Chief Technical Officer Bob Czajkowski,“ and this is the first time voice recognition software has ever been put in a single chip entry level handset.”

I’m really looking foward to this phone hitting the market. For places like India this phone is sure to be a HUGE hit.
