I’m sure you all remember the original LG Prada phone. Not only was it a sleek fashion phone, but it also was fully touchscreen. The successor to the original Prada phone was announced today and it’s called the LG Prada (KF900). You would think they would call it the Prada 2 or something of that nature. The only difference in name is the model number, KF900. The new LG Prada still has a great sleek look with a touchscreen interface, but this time around LG added a full QWERTY slider keyboard. Here are a couple excerpts from the press release:

The latest edition of the PRADA Phone by LG (Model: LG-KF900) offers a collection of technical upgrades catering to today’s highest mobile needs. In the outer peripherals, new handset preserves the same original minimalist exterior that has now become a key design inspiration of touch screen handsets worldwide. A defining modification for the new handset involves a set of aesthetics keys that slide out to form a more professional look that not only grazes an elevated level of sophistication, but is also a highly efficient communication tool that complements the latest PRADA Phone by LG’s technology.

The handset’s user interface also receives a powerful improvement with LG’s latest active flash UI technology and haptic feedback on touch input enhancing the experience of the phone’s exclusive contents offerings. Dynamic upgrades to the software is well complimented by hardware extensions that include 3G capability with HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps and advanced 5 megapixel camera featuring slow motion video recording and DivX playback. Other features include Wi-Fi, full HTML browser, and video calling capabilities.

This time around, LG and PRADA reinvents mobile trend with another stunning offering, the ‘PRADA Link’ (Model: LG-LBA-T950). Expected to release with the new handset, this sleek and elegantly packaged digital timepiece is a Bluetooth device that can remotely monitor phone calls as well as read full SMS text messages without having to extract the phone from a bag or pocket. Extending the handset’s luxurious exterior beyond the device itself is a new wearable type accessory; the PRADA Link not only revolutionizes the conventional methods of mobile communication, but adds practicality and convenience to a fashionable statement.

The new PRADA Phone by LG and the PRADA Link will be available with a starting price of 600 Euros and 299 Euros, respectively. The products can be purchased through major mobile dealerships in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and other countries in Europe. Please contact your local operator for details on the handset’s availability in your area.”

I’m sure we’ll be seeing the LG Prada on eBay in no time. It’s a GSM phone so you can expect to use unlocked versions here in the US. My bet is that it will probably never be officially released for any US carriers.

I was watching the nightly news yesterday and there was a short story on Barack Obama and his Blackberry. Throughout his campaign and I’m sure well before that Obama has used a Blackberry. The piece talked about how the secret service will not allow Obama to use his Blackberry once he becomes President. The story cited security reasons. On top of that they said he may not even be able to use email anymore. Could you imagine not being able to use your Blackberry (or other smartphone) or email for at least four years? That alone would make me not what to run for the presidency (not like anyone was pushing me to do so). This begs the questions, what would you do if you couldn’t use your Blackberry or email for four years?

Verizon Wireless and Photobucket announced the availability of a new mobile photo service on select Verizon Wireless handsets that enables Verizon Wireless customers to easily send photos from a mobile device to a Photobucket album. The application will launch exclusively for Verizon Wireless customers and is available for download from Verizon Wireless mobile storefront by texting ‘photob’ to 2777, in the Community and Sharing category of the Verizon Wireless Get It Now catalog or by visiting photobucket.com/mobile.

Jennifer Byrne, director of digital media at Verizon, said, “Mobile phones are adding a new dimension to sharing images between friends, colleagues or family members. Photobucket is bringing Verizon Wireless customers a new and easy way to share their photos and videos in real-time, without needing to move to a PC to upload and send them.”

“Photobucket is thrilled to team up with Verizon Wireless to provide a quick and easy photo sharing solution for people on the go,” said Alex Welch, President of Photobucket. “Photobucket has always been committed to making photo sharing fun and easy. The Photobucket Mobile Uploader for Verizon Wireless unlocks the full potential of camera phone photos, allowing users to easily save and share images online more easily than they would using traditional digital cameras.”

To utilize the application, Verizon Wireless subscribers sign up for a Photobucket account – which can be created for free at http://photobucket.com – and enter their log-in information to link their Verizon Wireless account to their Photobucket online photo album. Once the accounts are connected, the application instantly uploads photos already saved on the phone to the user’s Photobucket account. The Photobucket Mobile Uploader then automatically sends any future photos directly to the same Photobucket account.

Verizon is the first carrier in the United States to be offering the Photobucket Mobile Uploader and the application will be available initially on 13 handsets. The service is available now from Verizon Wireless, which enables the user to send unlimited mobile photos to their Photobucket account for a monthly subscription fee of $2.99.

If you’re like me then the dream of a 3G network means that you would no longer need to have a broadband connection at home. You could simply use your cell phone as a tethered modem wherever you go. This dream is starting to become a reality. Major cell phone carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile have shied away from having phones on their network used as tethered mobiles. Mainly due to the fact that if people start using their phones as modems for their computers then the 3G networks will slow to a crawl. This may or may not be true, but the reality is, is that the carriers can’t ignore the consumers desire to use their phones as tethered modems.

In comes two of the more popular cell phones to date, the iPhone and G1. Apple recently announced that an app is in development that would allow users to use their iPhones as modems. There was no date announced for when the app may be available. When it is available I’ll guarantee that the Apple app store will get tons of hits the day it is released.

On the other side there is no app available or even announced to be in the works for the G1. HOWEVER, You can find the instructions for using your G1 as a tethered modem at http://graha.ms/androidproxy. Try it out and see if you get it to work. There is a link once you go to the instructions page which takes you to an Android forum where people are helping each other out with making it work. Good luck!
